"Ich bin ein Berliner" or "Ick bin ein Berliner" , in english, "I am a citizen of Berlin" is a well-known phrase taken from a speech by U.S. President John F. Kennedy in West Berlin in 1963, who has given moral support of the United States for West Germany because 22 months before the Communist state of East Germany erected the Berlin Wall to prevent movement between East and West. The speech was a great morale boost for West Berliners fearing East German occupation at the time.
In Berlin they say "Ick" and not "Ich".
