For your personal needs at home or as a student please understand that a dual-language dictionary can be used for translation but a monolingual dictionary can't. Make sure that your dictionary has a high number of entries.

Monolingual dictionaries contain more entries and you have a dictionary that we Germans use ourselves, but it can't be used for translation.

Please note that 1996 has been the "Rechtschreibreform" in Germany. This was a German spelling reform where words such as "daß" changed to "dass" and the spelling of other words changed as well.
