Make a syrup:
Take 1/2 cup cherry juice, add 1/2 cup of sugar and let it simmer for a bit and then let it cool down. After that add 1/4 cup of cherry liqueur. Sprinkle this syrup over the cake before you put the cherries and whipped cream on it. This adds moisture to the cake.

between layers..
Sprinkle a thin layer of chocolate syrup between the layers.
